Gel Eyeliner vs Liquid Eyeliner: Which is Better?

Last Updated on May 21, 2020 by Janie Wilson

Putting an emphasis on our eyes, women, is a must when we go to a party, a date, or even when we go shopping. Make those eyes stand out! An Eyeliner can take care of that. It adds confidence! Since it’s vital to most women, we tend to try and buy different kinds of eyeliner. I’ve asked some women their opinion on which eyeliner is their preferred choice. Three out of five said they prefer the gel. One said it is liquid and the last one said she uses both. Here is their combined definition for each liner.

What is Gel Eyeliner?

Gel Eyeliner vs Liquid EyelinerWhen using a Gel Eyeliner, a brush will be your best friend. Over time, the formula usually dries up, so you will need to put oil on it to be able to use it again. Any oil will do or eye drops works. The benefit of the oil is it makes the gliding easier as you apply it. Now, if you want a liner that would last the whole day or even days, yes some brands would last for days! Gel eyeliner stays until you remove it.

What is Liquid Eyeliner?

Gel Eyeliner vs Liquid EyelinerThe benefits of Liquid Eyeliner are that it is very handy and easy to apply. No brush needed. If you are at a party and need to touch upon your eyeliner, you only need to pull this back and go over that line, and that’s it! No need to bring any brushes or any oil. This is also very good for beginners as it is very easy to use. This one is excellent for women on the go! Now, since this is very easy to use, it also is very easy to wipe off. It doesn’t last as long so if you are at an all-day event, it’s a great idea to touch up throughout it.

I have this friend who said that if you have shaky or unsteady hands, the best liner is the gel formula since you do not need to do a retouch every now and then. How about you? Which do you think is best to use?

Anyway, when we talk about the makeup we all have our own way and own opinion on why one is better than the other. Why don’t we talk about how to take care of our eyeliners. Often everything we have inside our makeup pouch will dry up. That includes our liners.

What’s the best way to store them?

For a liquid liner, we only need to keep two things in mind: One, make sure that the lid is always on when we’re not using it. And two, position it upside down like our makeup brushes. When it comes to gel liners storage, I only heard one way of storing it. That is to store it upside down so that it keeps the moisture at the top of the container.

What to do?

When a liquid eyeliner dries up, “it’s already useless.” That’s our common way of thinking. I myself said goodbye to one of my babies already, because the tip was already stiff. But did we know that there are some hacks on how to revive our liquid eyeliners? Oh! Let me correct myself, there is this very simple SINGLE hack on how to bring that liner back to life again. You better try this one first before deciding to throw out your sweetheart eyeliner.

Are you excited to know how? It’s very simple. You need to turn on the faucet and make sure that the water coming out is cold. Run the tip of the liner for a few seconds, shake the pen, and wipe off the excess water. After doing so, try it on the back of your hand. That’s it! Yeah, trust me. It will work.

Now let’s go ahead and put life back into those little gel eyeliners who dry up so fast once exposed to air. With this kind of liner, I can share a few hacks on reviving it. Some of it I got from my friends who can’t live without eyeliner. When I say “can’t live without”, I mean those friends who put on eyeliners every single day of their lives. They have it the moment they wake up until they close their eyes at night.

Okay, with the first hack, you’ll only need a toothpick and swirl it around the container. The goal of this is to mix the ingredients again. That’s it! But what if it’s dry still? In this case, we now need a mixing solution like Inglot Duraline that you can buy from makeup stores in your area. Add one drop of the solution into the dried liner, mix it using a toothpick or your liner brush, and there you go! It looks like new again! Let’s go now to the last but not the least hack. This is pretty easy. Close that little liner container. Get a cup of hot water, dip the container for 5-10 minutes. Remove it from the water. Pat dry and open. Be surprised by the smoothness it’ll give you!

Summing up: Gel or Liquid eyeliner?

Each of us has our own preference on which type of eyeliner is best. We have our own reasons why we like this versus the other. For me, since I am only putting on eyeliner when I attend a party, I’d go for the liquid eyeliner from Maybelline. It’s the Eyestudio Master Precise All Day Liquid Eyeliner. It’s so smooth to apply on. I am always amazed at how long it lasts, last time it worked 8 hours straight! I didn’t even do a retouch between. Although I like the liquid liner, I still want to try and use the gel at the next party I’ll attend. It’s always exciting to play around with makeup, right? So, why not!
