To begin with, there are always a few days when you feel that you need to change your looks. Yes, you somehow sense that that you are going to turn a new leaf in your life and you have to do something special to make a physical display of it so that others can realize how you feel.

That’s how you generally feel right before you dye your hair with a totally different color so that you get an absolutely new look! If you’ve had a similar experience to mine, you’ll know that not only is there a good chance that you’ll spend a lot of money and end up disliking the change, but also that the chemicals in the dye will permanently damage your hair. If only there was a cheap, temporary and natural way to dye your hair! That’s the kind of feeling most people have under the circumstances. But you guessed it right, there is a natural way of doing it! Here’s how to turn a beet into your own natural beet hair dye.

Truly, I wanted to change things up, but I wasn’t willing to spend money at a salon or risk the adverse effects on my hair. Then I discovered I could make hair dye from beet juice. This was a suggestion from one of my close friends. Beet hair dye? I was impressed. So I grabbed my keys, ran to the grocery store, bought some beets and got home as fast as I could.

I was so excited. But at the same time, I doubted it was possible. I mean, honestly, what are the chances that you could dye your hair with a vegetable? After trying the natural beet hair dye, it turns out that it surely works. And the results are surprisingly good.

Steps to dyeing your hair with beets

Step 1: Buy or make beet juice

First of all, to make beet dye, you’ll need beet juice. You can find canned beet juice at your local health food store. Or, if you have a juicer, you can juice the beets yourself. But if, like me, you don’t have a juicer, you can follow the same steps as mine.

  1. Cut the beets into quarters and wrap them in aluminum foil.

Bake the beets at 400 degrees Fahrenheit for 30-45 minutes or until tender.

  1. Make a puree of the beets and strain.

You now have your beet hair dye, also known as Beet juice. It’s that simple.

Step 2: Soak your hair in beet juice.

Once you have your beet dye, it’s time to dye your hair. Be sure to wear clothes that you don’t mind staining. Besides, you should have towels on hand that you won’t mind getting a little reddish pink. Next, simply cover your hair with beet juice. You can use a comb to make sure the dye (i.e. beet juice) is evenly distributed.

Step 3: Wait for an hour and then rinse with cold water.

Now all you have to do is to wait. Let your hair soak in the beet juice for about an hour. Meanwhile, you should clean the areas of your skin that are covered in beet juice so that they don’t turn red as well.

When the time is up, go to the shower. But here’s an important note: quickly rinse your hair without shampoo and with cold water only. You just want to wash most of the juice out of your hair. When I dyed my hair with beet juice, I made sure to rinse until a light pink color came out of my hair. Then I drained the cold water out and blow-dried my hair.

That was it! You now have beet red hair naturally. It’s a very simple process. And it’s a lot of fun to change the look from time to time. Not to mention that beet juice can be used as a hair mask. I loved that my hair looked even healthier after being colored with beet juice.

This is a temporary color, so be sure to wash your hair as little as possible if you want to keep the color for a while. And when you do wash your hair, be sure to only wash it with cold water – and enjoy the new look!

Now, the question arises, why dye your hair with beet?

You really start wondering as to why you should try beet hair dye. Is it it just a fad or is it worth it? Check out the reasons to know the benefits of dyeing your hair with beet:

It is an absolutely natural way to dye your hair. There is no need to use harmful chemicals that can harm the health of your beautiful hair.

Beet juice provides a powerful but temporary coloring that enables you to adjust the intensity to your liking and return to your true hair color whenever you want.

The nutrient-rich beet juice promotes blood flow to the scalp, which stimulates the hair follicles and promotes hair growth.

Beet’s anti-itching properties help the scalp get rid of dead skin cells, dandruff and itching, while deeply healing it.

Frequent use of beet juice gives hair a smooth texture and a beautiful shine.

It is a much more economical alternative to store-bought hair dyes or salon colors.

Beet contains many nitrates, which are converted into nitric oxide in our body through a chain reaction. This increases blood flow to the scalp, resulting in healthier, stronger hair.
